Development Director
Lead fundraising toward a $750,000 annual goal through a relationship-driven, major-gift strategy.
About the role
The Development Director leads fundraising efforts to reach a $750,000 annual revenue goal through a relationship-driven, major-gift strategy. This role builds and manages the donor pipeline, executes fundraising campaigns, and develops the sustainable systems that support Mission First's long-term growth and veteran-focused mission.
What you'll do
- Manage a portfolio of 50 to 75 qualified prospects, and develop individualized strategies for donors capable of giving $25,000 or more.
- Oversee a three-tier donor system (major, mid-level, and annual giving) and strengthen retention and long-term engagement.
- Lead Spring, Fall, and Year-End campaigns, grow recurring monthly giving, and run fundraising events that return at least 5 to 1.
- Ensure every gift is acknowledged within 48 hours, with structured stewardship and lapsed-donor re-engagement.
- Coach and equip board members to participate in fundraising through donor assignments, education, and accountability.
- Support the grant strategy, cultivate foundation partners, and keep accurate CRM records with monthly board reporting.
What we're looking for
- Five or more years of major-gift fundraising experience.
- Demonstrated success cultivating, soliciting, and closing significant charitable gifts.
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills, and experience with donor CRM software.
- A strategic thinker with strong organizational and execution skills, and a passion for the mission.
- Preferred: grant writing and foundation management, capital-campaign experience, nonprofit leadership, and work with veteran-serving organizations.
