Programming Director
Lead the design, delivery, and scaling of the veteran-centered programs at the heart of The Sanctuary on the Hill.
About the role
The Programming Director leads the strategic design, delivery, and scaling of veteran-centered programs at Mission First and The Sanctuary on the Hill. This founding leadership role ensures a holistic portfolio of services that helps veterans and their families transition to civilian life by fostering community, restoring purpose, and providing long-term support. The role reports to the President of the Board (transitioning to the Executive Director once that role is filled).
What you'll do
- Curate core program areas across mental health and peer support, family wellness, life skills, career transition, and outdoor and experiential programming.
- Oversee the outside organizations that deliver programs on-site, and keep collaborators working in sync so shared resources are used well.
- Cultivate strategic networks with VA providers, regional nonprofits, corporate employers, and community organizations.
- Manage day-to-day logistics, scheduling, facility use, and resource allocation across all Sanctuary facilities, with quality control for safety and consistency.
- Recruit, support, and lead a high-performing team of staff and community volunteers, and champion peer-led models where seasoned veterans mentor new participants.
- Track participation, outcomes, and satisfaction, and report impact to leadership and the board.
What we're looking for
- Proven leadership designing, executing, and scaling community or nonprofit programs.
- An expert relationship builder with a track record of multi-agency collaboration and community networking.
- Deep cultural competence around veteran experiences, military transition, and available support systems.
- A mental-health background with professional experience developing or overseeing social programs.
- Strong operational skills, balancing high-level strategy with hands-on, daily execution.
- A whole-person mindset and genuine, mission-driven passion for serving veterans and military families.
